"I'm as good as royalty!"
- The Medieval Scout

Wound up taking a bit longer with this one than with the past few, due to... technical difficulties along the way. :paranoid:

Coming up with a redesign for the Scout was pretty interesting. On one hand it was pretty straight forward; he's a scout, just draw him so that he looks like one and call it a day, right? At the same time, though, I wanted to play off of his arrogant and superior attitude, and decided that a good middle-ground would be for him to look like a royal messenger kind of guy.

The hat is an old-fashioned beret. A bit more renaissance-inspired than anything else, but it still fits the theme, and the Scout's somewhat upper-class apparel.

The primary weapon is a slingshot. That's right, a slingshot. Not entirely sure if they had slingshots like that in those days, but come on, it's perfect for the Scout.

I was thinking of just using the already existing Boston Basher for a melee weapon, but decided that I'd rather just come up with something of my own. So, instead, I gave him a flail packed with pointlessly long spikes. Probably gonna hit yourself with ease, swinging such a thing.

i guess someone already mentioned it (too lazy to read comments) but i doubt slingshots are medieval
hard to keep stuff that elastic and rubber which could be used for slingshots only exits since around 1850 (galvanization process of rubber by chalres goodyear)
but its okay, they made the same "mistake" in the hobbit (lotr), one of the dwarfs has a slingshot
normal slings or a sling staff would have also worked right? (or be badass kestroshendone and sling arrows)

Thanks for the comment, but this thing is four years old, I did not expect to see another comment on it. Plus it's TF2, the game is as good as 1960s fantasy fiction, the "realistic" nature of the things in it has never really been an issue in any way.

does it matter that it is four years old? Mona Lisa is way older and people still watch the picture... and she has no eyebrows...
oh well nevermind, have a nice day :P

It matters because after a given time, chances are the commentary would already have been made in the past. Perhaps even repeatedly so. The only realistic response to any additional comments on the issue would just be "do know, don't care". :paranoid:

Oh man, you've captured arrogance perfectly here! Good one. I never knew how to make an arrogant face :/
You definitely are right. A slingshot would be perfect for him! Charges like the huntsman, but he flings lots of sharp pebbles. And i say, the Baston Basher should have been a flail. It would make complete sense, but I guess you cant let go of the bat. Amywayz, they would do pretty much the same thing. Maybe more dmg at the cost of slower swing rate . I'd just wanna smack the scummy look on Scout's face! Nice =D

Thanks. To me the lip looks a bit too stiffly arrogant for the scout, but glad you like it.

I'd be terrified to RUN with that flail swinging about behind me. I don't want those pointlessly long spikes to impale my legs. DX

Good job on the Scout. It fits him to be arrogant like that. Lol.

It's actually supposed to be a replacement for his shoulder bag, though I suppose the intel would probably wind up being a bag of scrolls.

I doubt that they had slingshots, but they definitely had slings.

That is, a piece of leather with two strings attached; you put the stone in the leather, swing it around your head, and let go of one of the strings.

What's the secondary weapon then?

I've been thinking of doing the Engine next, as all that remain after there (the medic, the sniper and the demoman) already have medieval-style weapons in-game. Think I'll just keep on doing them as RED classes, though, as I find the RED team to be a better "default" team than BLU.

ah, also, you could use a ballista for a sentry gun! and a musket for sniper if you want, make him a little more renaissance-ish.
