DAC Gator theme challenge by Folji DAC Gator theme challenge by Folji
After a month of TF2 pictures and a few weeks of either coding or doing nothing, it feels good to be back to doing some personal work again. Figured it'd be a good idea to do a little warm-up, to get back into it, so had a go at this week's challenge from :icondesign-a-character:, which was to take a set of shapes and draw crocodile/alligator characters from them. Ooh how fun, I did exactly the same thing myself not long ago, just not with crocodiles and not as detailed [link]
I think most of these are oretty good, I especially like the last one. I think thats the best one, probably because the depth in the contrast of his mouth, is looks alot less flat than the others.
There are some small anatomical flaws here and there but I feel hesitant to point them out since you said you were probably aware of them, but I might as well anyway. I think the arm on the lady on the first one looks a bit weird and I think it is because she needs a bit more of a shoulder. But then again, what do I know about crocodile anatomy? I really like her eyes and glasses though.
I also think the head on the suit-guy looks like it isn't really connected to the head, and I think you either should see some more neck on him, or maybe just make the knot on his tie visible.
The police officer crocodile guy is just amazing. Charming guy, really, nothing much I can say there.
The guy to his left is the least good, I think, the angle looks a bit weird and he's a bit hard to make out. His shoulders and neck doesn't really look like they are connected as they should be so it looks like his shoulder shield is cut into his right shoulder.

Don't know if I said anything you didn't already know. Overall I think this is good though. Keep it up.

To be honest, I wasn't exactly trying too hard with the anatomy on any of these. And I've taken to go back to square one of my work to get better at the bare basics of it (anatomy, composition, etc.). Keep finding myself in situations where I can see all my problems and errors as plain as day, but I can't see the solution for them. :paranoid:

Well, the easiest solution is always to just, be aware of anatomy all the time, looking at people around you and trying to memorize how people move, but I guess it's harder in this case, seeing as there isn't that many humanoid crocodiles around.

Like I said, I've decided to go back to square one to improve myself on the basics. Keeping anatomy in mind is one thing, but it doesn't do you much good when you keep seeing problems that you can't see the solution for. :bucktooth:
